ABSTRACT

The Monsoon was approaching in which the English Fleet usually came to Cape Iasques for the silks that the Persian gave them to the great detriment of the custom-house of Ormuz; for this reason, the Captain-Major fitted out two terranquis for a two months’ voyage, making Domingos Pirez Vieyra Captain of one and Andrè Coutinho of the other, with orders to keep a strict look-out off the point of the Cape, putting out to sea every morning to see if they could sight any ships, and if they saw them they were to come and advise him of it.
