ABSTRACT

This book is about an extraordinary experience as seen through the eyes of one of its leading interpreters. Carlina Rinaldi began working in Reggio in 1970, first as a pedagogista, then as the pedagogical director of the municipal early childhood services and, since her retirement in 1999, as a consultant to Reggio Children, the organisation established by the municipality of Reggio Emilia to manage the relationship between the municipal schools in Reggio and the rest of the world. In these various capacities, Carlina has made many speeches, given many interviews and written many papers: this book presents a selection. Through them we can follow how the experience in Reggio Emilia has developed over more than 40 years, in relation both to particular philosophical and theoretical perspectives and to the wider social, cultural and political context.
