ABSTRACT

I think we can no longer talk about the nido, the family, social services and so on without ‘historicising’ these terms, i.e. without making any distinction in terms of time and space. ‘Nido’ and ‘family’ mean different things depending on whether we are referring to the situation ten years ago or today, and if we are talking about the Centre, the North or the South of Italy. Both the families and the nidi are subjects-objects of change, in parallel with more general economic, cultural and political trends.
