ABSTRACT

In 2000, five women ran for their state’s governorship; three female candidates were successful in their bid, and two of those women represented the Republican Party-Judy Martz (R-MT) and Ruth Ann Minner (R-DE). In 2002, eleven women ran to represent their state in the U.S. Senate; three of those women won, and two of those three were Republicans-Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) and Susan Collins (R-ME).
