The Iron Age, like all prehistoric periods, has been subject to changing fashions in explanation. Each generation of scholars has imposed its own preconceptions and prejudices in an attempt to make sense of the disparate scraps of evidence that have gradually accumulated. Inevitably, as the database increases and perceptions change, new generations of archaeologists improve upon, and sometimes reject, the interpretations of their predecessors. In this way all sciences advance.
