ABSTRACT

Among prose texts of the early Middle Ottoman period, i.e. roughly the 16th century, historical texts constitute a large group. These texts have been mainly used as historical sources. Although in some editions descriptive grammars have been drawn up for each respective text, Ottomanists and/or linguists have neglected a number of aspects. They have rarely looked at historical texts as works of art on the one hand, nor as important sources for syntactic analysis on the other.
