ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we look at some basic non-repudiation technologies. Nonrepudiation in security systems typically is defined as the mechanism to guarantee that a message can be proved to have originated from a specific sender. This definition can also be called source non-repudiation. Nonrepudiation can sometimes be more strictly defined as the assurance that the sender of a message is provided with proof of delivery and that the recipient is provided with proof of the sender’s identity, so that neither can later deny having processed the message.
