ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some key basic confidentiality technologies. Confidentiality or privacy ensures that the content of a message is not visible to persons other than the intended or authorized recipients. During even a single session between two message exchanging parties, there might potentially be a number of different types of messages that require confidentiality. These include the original sensitive data, passwords, secret or private keys that are needed for encryption and decryption of the sensitive data and, maybe, a session that both sides agree on for cryptography purposes during bulk file transfer.
