ABSTRACT
This taster follows on from Chapter 17, Hard Disk Basics. It covers fibre channel, which is arguably the technology of choice for SANs, and it provides an introduction to SAN infrastructures. The features of NAS, which is frequently compared to SAN, are summarized. The main focus is on the hardware aspects of these technologies. Discussion of software issues commences in Chapter 21 and continues in Chapter 23.
