ABSTRACT

This taster covers the use of facilities to split network traffic across multiple server devices, primarily firewalls, Web servers, and application servers, to provide a means of both resilience and scalability. There is a variety of options, ranging from software only to hardware-based blackbox solutions. This taster commences with the load balancing of devices such as firewalls and Web servers that typically do not need to store state information. Discussion continues with the implications of maintaining state on Web and application servers.
