ABSTRACT

This taster discusses the concepts, design, and implementation issues that relate to the use of modern server-side technologies. Although there are other technologies in the field, the main players are arguably Microsoft with .NET and the Java community, and the observations apply predominantly to them. There is no attempt to compare the technologies, not least because there are too many products that come into the frame (e.g., MTS and COM+, as well as .NET in the Microsoft world), plus myriad application servers that support the J2EE specification.
