ABSTRACT

A student with preventive counseling interests should be able to dedicate several credit hours of courses strictly to prevention. We use a rough guideline of 24 credit hours (eight courses) in our counseling program to constitute a “support area” for purposes such as this one. These courses, as well as those with a prevention focus that reside in the core curriculum (especially the advanced practicum and internship), provide a minimum level of specialized training in preventive counseling.
