ABSTRACT

As documented in the introductory chapter, the percentage of women has increased during the past 3 decades in varying amounts in all disciplines except computer science. Table 1 includes the data given in the introductory chapter for the percentage of women receiving BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in the different disciplines of science and engineering.

Table 2 shows the NSF data for different faculty ranks in different science and engineering disciplines; Table 3 documents the percentage of women compared to men who hold tenure at different types of institutions. As with most data sets, these data reveal more than one trend or significant point.
