ABSTRACT

As noted in the previous chapter, the ideal consistency of cob for placement on

the wall is when the material has attained a fairly stiff but plastic state, some-

what like dough or putty. It should hang together in fairly large clods that can

be easily lifted with a fork. If the cob disaggregates into small pieces it is too

dry and would need to be wetted and re-mixed. As a general guide, a lift of cob

should be equal to the width of the wall, though it is possible to construct

higher lifts, up to one metre, if coarse, sandy soils are being employed.
