ABSTRACT

All of us who started journeying with Friends of the Earth started out of passion, not out of professional careerism, though some of us maintained professions in parallel. What happened all through the 1970s – and we watched it happen – was that the arguments and ways of arguing strayed ever closer to other people’s frame of reference. We started outside the frame, saying: Come on, you ought to come over here. But the arguments got to be more and more an exchange of expert opinions.
