ABSTRACT

By the year 2002, women entrepreneurs had entered many industries and sectors. Many of the earlier obstacles to women’s business success have been removed, yet some still remain. Many research questions have been posed, and

investigators have examined the economic and social impact of women’s business ownership. Further, there has been much progress in the training and development of women entrepreneurs within public policy and academic programs. Finally, scholars of entrepreneurship and small business have studied the influences of and the impact on business ownership by women. The number of research studies has grown since the 1980s, when scholars and policy-makers first cast their attention toward women entrepreneurs.
