ABSTRACT
The family is a feature of human society that predates modern thinking about it. Although the precise origin of the family is unknown, there is evidence of family life in every record of early mankind. It is found in every known society, both civilized and preliterate. An accurate sociological description of the family and its legal status in Biblical times is not readily available, as the relevant evidence is not of a strictly socio-descriptive nature.
