ABSTRACT

Muchofmathsisdevelopmental.Somepsychologistswriteaboutahierarchyofcognitive development,butsomeaspectsofdevelopmentaremoresimplethanthatandothersare moresophisticated.Wheneverateacherortutorisworkingonamathstopicthequestion ‘Whatelseareyouteaching?’isveryrelevant.Itmaybethataconceptisbeingintroduced orthatapreviouslyrecognisedpatternisbeingrevisitedinanewform.Eachtopicislikely tobesettingthegroundworkforfuturetopics,sothereisaneedtoknowwherethemaths isgoingwhentakingthefirststepsonthatmathematicaljourney.
