ABSTRACT
Tracing the development of reinforced concrete leads one on a convoluted trail. The
rapid rise to pre-eminence of the building material at the turn of last century is well
documented,1 yet repeated appropriations as a case study of technological evolution
have left its history prone to simplification and misinterpretation.
