ABSTRACT
This book started life as a sheaf of notes appended to an office design manual. Along
with design codes, section tables and specifications, the prescriptions and preferred
ways of doing things built up over years by a busy engineering office, it was intended
as a working tool, to be set beside all the other paraphernalia for day-to-day use.
