ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to provide discussions of three sources of data which have been employed quite a lot by organizational researchers and a somewhat concise treatment of methods which are little used but worthy of mention. There is a fairly strong compatibility between the three main methods discussed-structured observation, simulation and language studies-in that each exhibits considerable attention to the observation of behaviour, albeit in different ways. However, whereas structured observation and simulation have been used for many years, language studies are of more recent origin.
