ABSTRACT
Providing resources for citizenship does not have to smack of the lecture room. Some of the most effective contributions have come from iconoclastic comedy and from dramas that combined popularity with new ways of engaging contemporary experience. Advocating diversity entails using the full resources of television to develop programme forms that will offer a variety of pleasures as well as a variety of insights.
