ABSTRACT
Dutch is the Egmond (or Leiden) Willeram. It dates from around 1 100 and is a Dutch version of an Old High Gennan commentary on the Song of Songs by the Benedictine monk Wil liram of Ebersberg in Bavaria. Although the two languages were still close to each other at this stage, the Dutch scribe writing in the monastery of Egmond in Holland systemati cally adapted his source text to fit his own pronunciation and vocabulary.
