ABSTRACT

The purpose of the mini-commitment has been described briefly in Chapter 2 as a ‘crucial period of exploration with each session important in itself, clear in content, focus and resolution’. Ideally, this contractual commitment will have developed out of a careful process of assessment at the intake interview. It is different from the holding arrangement (see Table 1), recommended for incrisis or ‘visiting’ clients who are likely to benefit more from an uncommitted, flexible and less formal offer of between one and three sessions over an appropriate period of time.
