ABSTRACT

After a period as a POW in the Soviet Union Huchel returned to radio, in which he had been employed before 1938. In 1949 he became editor of the GDR’s most important literary magazine Sinn und Form, but in 1962 he was deprived of his post because of his open policy towards ideologically alien writing and placed under supervision at his home. He was eventually allowed to move to the Federal Republic, where he remained until his death.
