ABSTRACT

The statistical tests covered in this chapter determine whether the means of interval or ratio measures differ between a sample and the population and between two or more unrelated samples of cases on one variable or factor. In terms of the first situation, we may be interested in finding out whether the pre-test course marks for the women in our study are similar to the population from which they were drawn which may be all the students studying those subjects in that college at the time of the study. In terms of the second situation, we may want to determine whether the mean of the pre-test marks for women differs across two or three of the tutorial conditions.
