ABSTRACT

The line of reasoning to be developed here is that theories about permanent and temporary organisations are unsuitable or even inept when it comes to accounting for some of the most crucial aspects of neo-industrial development. There is a need to develop the theoretical foundations for that development, and we intend to do so by outlining the present state of theorising in the field. However, when discussing theories-in-use (or espoused theories) as well as scholarly organisation theory, one has to make choices. Like Bishop Brask, we feel the urge to excuse ourselves, in this case from omitting in the present chapter any favourite theories that the reader might have. Essentially we have written this chapter to support the main points we want to make concerning neo-industrial organising in the hope that any omissions that we might have made are not too important in that particular respect.
