ABSTRACT

Migrants’ transnational political practices raise the question of what interests are at stake for the receiving country. While issues of immigration and integration of Turkish citizens in Germany are being recognized as increasingly significant for Turkish-German relations, the homeland political efforts of the communities themselves are still viewed with some scepticism. There is a reluctance to deal with homeland political agendas, to have Turkish politics play itself out on German soil, and to represent the Turkish citizens as Turks or Kurds, Sunnis or Alevis, rather than as immigrants, in German politics.
