ABSTRACT

31Inspiration is a nebulous thing. It strikes out of the blue—sometimes, if you are lucky, in the middle of working on a piece. As an artist, you develop an awareness of your surroundings, constantly on the lookout for ideas. You have to be alert to the world around you to spot the potential in things—the potential to explain or communicate your beliefs or passions. Inspiration seems to happen when you see something that chimes with you on a deep, emotional level and which might help you to externalize those feelings.
