ABSTRACT

Zulu uses the Roman alphabet. The orthography was standardized in the early 20th century and is based on phonetic principles, which means that each letter – or in some cases each group of letters – represents a single sound. Letters that are phonetically redundant (‘c,’ ‘q,’ ‘x’) are used to convey click consonants. Once you have learned to pronounce these sounds, you will not have difficulty reading Zulu.
