ABSTRACT

There’s very little information out there in regards to doing portraiture in this specific style, so I decided to include this information here. Although this may not be considered decay photography in the truest sense of the definition, including some elements of decay into portraiture is something that advertising and fashion photographers have been doing for a long time. Placing an object of beauty in the midst of a scene of deterioration is an effective counterpoint and therefore accentuates the allure of the subject. There’s something inherently appealing about the dichotomy of vivaciousness and decay – perhaps it’s the underlying fear of aging that makes us fascinated by these types of images. In any case, urban and rural landscapes make great locations for portraiture.
