ABSTRACT

Jerry Greenfield and Ben Cohen, iconic founders of the premium ice cream enterprise Ben and Jerry’s, lamented that Burlington isn’t as “crunchy and funky” as it was in days past. Recalling the glory days of the 1970s and 1980s, Burlington was a major site for everything alternative, securing a place impression of uniqueness. Everything’s relative, however, and Burlington still can hold its own culturally (including being named as the third funkiest city by British Airways in 2005).
