ABSTRACT

Inconsistency and instability in the law in Pakistan have continued since the death of General Zia in 1989. What follows is a brief sketch of legal developments in the past two years, especially the consequences of the passing of the Qisas and Diyat Ordinance in 1990 and of the Shariah Act in 1991. (The full text of these two significant laws is found at Appendices II and III). What is clear from these events and others not discussed is that recent events confirm the analysis of the legal situation in Pakistan as stated in the body of this book.
