ABSTRACT
This work has analysed the: a) importance of marine genetic resources for product development; b) legal status of marine genetic resources in the various maritime zones; c) key concepts related to ‘genetic resources’; d) international regimes regulating the use of marine genetic resources; e) implementation of these regimes by typical user states; f) weak points of the ABS regime; and g) potential remedies for these weak points.
