ABSTRACT
Along these lines, North Korea must also be cautious in its extreme political and military moves because of a key doctrine that the U.N. and the Security Council may use to solve the problems on the peninsula. North Korea’s mass human rights violations and disregard of its non-proliferation agreements most certainly meet the criteria under the doctrine of humanitarian intervention to justify international action in North Korea. The primary focus here will not be on the prudence of actually following through with armed humanitarian intervention. Rather, it illustrates the doctrine’s applicability to further emphasize North Korea’s gross disrespect for human rights and to advocate that the international community proactively seeks relief and justice for the North Korean people. The strongest possible diplomacy may make use of them. However, based on the theme of this chapter, humanitarian intervention is technically an option for a solution and potential redress.
