ABSTRACT

The ISIS approach to sex therapy is based on four core dynamics: creating and holding space, directing movement, creating ritual, and concretizing abstract concepts. The purpose of these core dynamics is to externalize clients’ problems in order to change the story. The processes by which these core dynamics work include raising awareness and providing both rationale and method for encouraging clients to find their own solutions, rather than having therapists focus on pathology and prescribe treatment. These general purposes will be recognized by therapists who practice narrative therapy.
