ABSTRACT

Building a Table of Contents Similar to the way in which cross - references are generated, InDesign builds a table of contents based on paragraph styles. As you're coming to understand, particularly for long documents, styles are the foundation of an efficient workflow. If you've been consistent in applying them, your work creating a TOC is already half done. To create a table of contents, you'll open the Table of Contents dialog and choose the paragraph styles that are applied to the text you want in your TOC. You'll then set up some formatting rules and InDesign will do the rest, automatically generating a hyperlinked TOC.
