ABSTRACT

In 2012, for the first time in U.S. history, the majority of children born were not whites of European ancestry. In addition, although African Americans represent the largest minority class among adults over 50, among younger Americans, Hispanics represent the largest minority group, followed by Asians, creating a very new and diverse “majority minority.” William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institute, noted that, “we are moving from a largely white and black population to one which is more diverse and is a big contrast from what baby boomers grew up with.” 1
