ABSTRACT

There were several women at the clinic for a pregnancy test. The intern took care of them. She called them into the counseling room but then Kaoutar told them to wait outside. It was a bit confusing at the moment. The one woman was born in 1976, which makes her 33 years old. Her test was negative. She was happy! Another woman in a light blue veil, which covered her completely, also had a negative result. She left the room immediately after this. I didn't quite make out what the result of the 26-year-old woman's test was, but the 23-year-old woman who wore a yellow djellaba also had a negative pregnancy test. No women were pregnant today! I asked the intern if this was correct and she said it was. So obviously the woman whose test I didn't see wasn't pregnant as well. (Excerpt from field notes February 19, 2009)
