ABSTRACT
In the first chapter reference was made to the salience of the concept of an Arab Nation and the contrast with reality. The Arab World might be thought to possess exceptional potential for regional, south-south integration in view of the presumed existence of such a nation, but divisiveness has appeared stronger. Attempts at some such form of integration have been made, however, and have not been completely fruitless.
