ABSTRACT

Those of us who work in teacher education are caught in a dilemma; the demands of the job take us in two different directions simultaneously.

On the one hand we owe it to our students to help fit them into the present school system with the minimum stress on them and the schools. They have a lot at stake and most, more than anything else, need to feel confident that at the end of their course they will be able to hold down a job as a teacher with some ease.
