ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the economic theory of demand, and considers its application in the elds of health and health care. Some of the issues will be considered in much more detail in later chapters. In particular we will discuss the many ways in which markets do not work well in health and health care, but at this stage the focus is on the main factors that in uence choices.
