ABSTRACT

The Billy Goats Gruff have always lived to the east of the river. They have fed well on the lush grass. However, as they look over the bridge, they are sure that the grass to the west of the river is even greener and lusher. The only trouble is that a horrible troll lives under the bridge and stops anyone trying to cross it. The smallest goat mounts the bridge first. He avoids being eaten by the troll since he promises that his brother will be tastier to eat. The second goat does the same and the troll awaits his big breakfast of the third goat. However, the largest goat is pretty tough himself, and butts the troll over the bridge and into the river. He is never seen again and the goats cross the bridge when they please.
