ABSTRACT
According to many accounts, both old and new, the beginnings of drawing are supposed to be meaningless, and are categorized pejoratively under the misleading generic term ‘scribbling’. Though some writers attach some importance to ‘scribbling’, in terms of sensorimotor practice and the enjoyment infants might experience, very few have credited any representational or expressive meaning to this phase.
