ABSTRACT

What sets NDEs apart from simple dreams? One possible answer to this may lie in their consistency, for descriptions of episodes of darkness, encounters with light, and overwhelming sensations of peace and joy appear within NDErs’ testimonies over and over again. Even if we baulk at accepting the elaborate NDE models that emerged early on within the field of near-death research, we are surely justified when confronted repeatedly by such motifs in asserting some sort of common core to NDE reports – a core that is not necessarily explained away by well-known processes such as intertextuality.
