ABSTRACT

Christian ministry involves teaching people of all ages and all abilities in a wide variety of contexts: in the pulpit, in small study groups, in the Sunday school and in the training of new ministers. There can be high expectations of minister’s expertise as a teacher, though few have had formal training as educators. Clergy mostly learn how to teach as they go along, picking up what works or doesn’t work through trial and error. Although some teaching duties may be delegated to others (e.g. Sunday school, leading a home group or Bible study), ministers may implicitly provide a role-model for these too.
