ABSTRACT

For anyone with experience of Christian ministry, it is obvious that there can be considerable variety in the ways people engage with religion. One way this is seen is in the diverse approaches to worship, theology and church among Christians of different denominations. However, the differences in religious approach between people within the same denomination, even the same church, may be just as significant. In contrast to the distinguishing marks of variety between denominations, these individual differences can be harder to put words to. For this task, the language of psychology, especially its ways of understanding personality, can be helpful.
