The results of the international study, using paid employment as the basis for comparison, are set out in Figure 2.4. The definition for the numerator used here includes all organizations meeting the structural operational definition (what we have referred to above, in the UK case, as the BNS), other than religious congregations, for which data were not available for all participating countries. In addition, the denominator differs very slightly by excluding agricultural workers (a small adjustment in the British case, but a significant one in some other countries).
