ABSTRACT
If public sector volunteering and CFN-mediated funding are considered out of scope, a residual figure of £110 million for dedicated ‘horizontal funding’ over 2001-4 emerges. This is comprised of two elements:
• £60 million for ‘modernizing infrastructure and the Active Community Unit’, which builds on the earlier commitment to expand the ACU made in 1999; and
• £50 million via a ‘community chest’ to ‘permit an organization or a committed individual to make a contribution to his or her community’.
