ABSTRACT
Land is the essential ingredient in housing development. Finding it, buying it and unravelling the constraints that may hinder its use are essential prerequisites to delivering new homes. In this chapter, the principal concern is with the way in which land is made available for housing rather than the physical characteristics of the commodity itself; although the chapter would be incomplete without discussion of the current brownfield/ greenfield debate.
